Refugees’ Europe: Towards an Inclusive Democracy addresses, through the normative, practical and political views of well-known international experts, the challenges that the so-called refugee crisis has generated for democracy in Europe.

The management of the refugees’ crisis reflects the crisis of democracy in Europe. The refugees’ phenomenon has had a huge impact on European integration, from the local to the supranational scale, making it a pressing matter for the future of democracy in Europe. This book provides a myriad of critical evidence-based expertise combining philosophical, legal, economic and political reflections on how to better understand and deal with the refugees’ case.

Contexto

Este volumen editado surge a raiz de la celebración de la IV edición del congreso internacional Bilbao European Encounters, celebrada en el 2017 bajo el título de «La Europa de los Refugiados” (“Refuges’s Europe”, en inglés). El congreso fue patrocinado por la Secretaría General de Derechos Humanos de Presidencia del Gobierno Vasco, por Bilbao Ekintza del Ayuntamiento de Bilbao y por Laboral Kutxa. En el mismo colaboraron EHU Gune, European University Institute de Florencia y Azkuna Zentroa

Cristina Astier

Cristina Astier is a PhD candidate in the Philosophy of Law Department at Universitat Pompeu Fabra. She has been a visiting scholar at the Department of Political and International Relations, University of Oxford (2016), and at the School of Transnational Governance, European University Institute (2019). She is a researcher at the Institute for Democratic Governance of Donostia-San Sebastián. She is a member of a multidisciplinary team devoted to scientific dissemination at the University of Barcelona (the GISME Group). She is co-coordinating an innovation project funded by the EIT Health, a body of the European Union, CCentre (2016-2020). She was involved as part of the coordination and communication teams on the MML project funded by the European Commission, «SIforAGE 2012-2016» on sustainable ageing.
